We have finally made it back to the UK!
Please tell the students in Turkey that we tried our hardest to get there to do the schools. Here is the story of our journey!
Thursday:
We awake at 7am to hear new that the Volcano in Iceland has closed flights in Scotland. We decide to continue to the airport (Stanstead).
When we arrive the airport and all the car parks are closed!
Didem calls me to tell me there are still flights from Paris, can we get there? Of course!
We book a EuroStar train and start our journey to Paris.
We arrive in Paris to discover all the hotels are booked!
Friday:
During the night we get an email to say there is an earlier flight from Charles De Gauls so we get at 5am to make our way to the airport.
When we arrive, flights are canceled until 14:00.
Didem and Ozdem find a flight from Orly airport at 15:00.
We get on more trains to rush to Orly airport.
When we arrive, all flights are canceled.
We look to drive to Turkey
All hire cars for all companies in Paris are fully booked
We have admit defeat as we have no time now to get to Turkey for Saturday. Trains to Spain, etc would take too long to arrive.
Saturday:
We start to try and get back to the UK but:
No Hire Cars (all booked)
No trains (all booked)
No Ferries (all booked)
We hear rumor of a new EuroStar train being put on and are lucky, we get tickets!
We finally get back to Stanstead at 11pm and start our drive home.
We are now working hard with Ozdem and Didem to work out when we can get back to do the schools.
Please believe me that we all tried our very hardest to get to Turkey, in the end time and volcanic ash defeated us.
We are very sorry not to be there!
All the best
